County to Try to Lower Quake Losses
The Board of Supervisors on Tuesday directed its staff to help research ways to minimize financial losses within the Los Angeles area from earthquakes.
The motion by Supervisor Mike Antonovich follows a report from the Federal Emergency Management Agency saying that of the $4.4-billion potential for national loss from quake damage, $1.6 billion is in Los Angeles County.
Under the motion, which passed unanimously, county officials will also be joining Caltech scientists in urging funding of that university’s earthquake early warning project.
