Internet users may have been getting a bum rap from researchers who have portrayed them as a depressed and socially isolated bunch that would rather commune with computers than human beings. A study released Wednesday by UCLA researchers found that Internet users tend to spend just as much time with friends and family, devote more of their lives to civic activities and even exercise more than non-Internet users. Internet use “is not coming at the expense of social life,” said Jeffrey Cole, director of the UCLA study. “These are not lonely, alienated people.”
