Ahoy, There! Spa Spotted Ahead

Title it “The Spa Craze Meets the Cruise Craze.” Combining two hot travel trends, Tucson-based Canyon Ranch has contracted with an Italian shipyard to build what it calls the first health resorts at sea.

The 320-passenger ships, Quest I and Quest II, will be spas “from stem to stern,” officials say, each with 35 treatment rooms plus treadmills, weight machines, whirlpools, steam rooms, rock climbing walls and more. From a floating dock at the stern, guests will be able to Jet Ski, kayak, swim or scuba dive. Or they can enter what’s described as a “12-person underwater submersible” to explore the sea.

Scheduled for launch in 2002, one ship will cruise around the world and the other will be on seven-day itineraries, said Gary Milner, director of new project development for Canyon Ranch, which runs resorts in Tucson and Lenox, Mass., and a spa at the Venetian Hotel-Resort-Casino in Las Vegas. Cruises are expected to cost about $5,000 per person per week, he added. Tel. (800) 742-9000, Internet https://www.canyon ranch.com.
