I am relieved to know that common sense does occasionally reign in the kingdom of hyperbole with regard to the issue of sex and violence in modern media. Rather than exacerbate the polarization that frequently bombards us with the “anything goes” argument for 1st Amendment rights preservation versus the hysterical clamor for government protection of our young, Mark Humphreys places responsibility where we all know it rightfully belongs: on the laps of parents! In an ideal world, creative expression would find its outlet only in works that uplift morally and inspire aesthetically within an industry that self-regulates responsibly. In an ideal world, government leadership would not pander to self-interest or to special interests by jumping on the bandwagon of censorship.

In the meantime, in the less-than-ideal world in which we find ourselves engaged in the most difficult of all human enterprises--the raising of children--we parents must continually challenge ourselves to role-model conscientiously and to muster the courage to say “no” when necessary.
