From Times Wire Reports

Tropical Storm Ernesto, the fifth named storm of the 2000 hurricane season, deteriorated and was not expected to regenerate, forecasters said. The winds accompanying Ernesto dropped to 35 mph, below the tropical storm threshold of 39 mph. Strong vertical winds high in the atmosphere weakened the storm, said Miles Lawrence, hurricane specialist with the National Hurricane Center in Miami. The center of the storm, which formed early Saturday, was about 1,200 miles east-southeast of the Florida coast.
