DUI Arrests Reported Down Over Holiday
Drunk-driving arrests over the Labor Day weekend were down in Ventura County this year, according to the California Highway Patrol.
For the period from 6 p.m. Friday to midnight Monday, authorities arrested 35 intoxicated drivers this year, a significant drop from last year’s 44 arrests, said Officer David Webb, a CHP spokesman.
Traffic collisions also dropped slightly, from 26 in 1999 to 24.
A few of the accidents did result in significant injuries, including four motorcyclists who suffered head and back injuries Sunday after plunging 80 feet down a mountainside on California 33 near Lockwood Valley Road.
But there were no traffic fatalities reported on roadways, authorities said.
