LOS ANGELES — The newborn twins of a slain woman remained in the hospital after being delivered prematurely after their mother was shot and killed by an intruder, officials said Friday.
One of the twins is in stable condition, the other is in critical condition, a hospital official said.
Their mother, Carmen Valencia, 37, was struck in the head by a bullet fired into her trailer just after 4 a.m. last Saturday in South-Central Los Angeles. An intruder fired several shots into the trailer before fleeing. Valencia’s husband, Florencio, and her 14-year-old son were not hurt.
Doctors at Martin Luther King Jr./Drew Medical Center were able to deliver the twins but could not save Valencia.
Donations on behalf of the family will be accepted at Carmen Valencia’s church, Iglesia de Jesus Cristo, 9722 S. Figueroa St., Los Angeles, CA 90003.
