Children’s Arts Festival Coming Up

Share

The Conejo Recreation and Park District is gearing up for its annual Children’s Festival of the Arts later this month.

Because the craft festival is designated as a city of Thousand Oaks Celebration 2000 event, it has received additional funding and will have more activities and better-quality crafts this year, said Lori Olbrich, the city’s recreation supervisor.

Entertainment will be provided by Tom Kuznkowski, a local musician who performs educational entertainment for children.

Twenty craft booths will be staffed by volunteers from the Conejo Valley chapter of the National Charity League. Nearly 1,000 children are expected to make everything from wood sculptures to watercolor bookmarks and take part in artistic activities, such as face-painting and creating a virtual city out of cardboard boxes.

All activities, except refreshments, are free. Proceeds from food and drink sales will go toward putting on next year’s event, Olbrich said.

The festival will take place at Conejo Creek Park North, Janss Road and California 23, from noon to 3 p.m. Sept. 23. In case of rain, the event will be held at the Thousand Oaks Community Center, 2525 N. Moorpark Road.
