Food Share Goes Online to Combat Hunger

Share

Food Share, which operates a regional food bank in Ventura County, is now online with its own Web site, www.foodshare.com.

The Internet site will focus on local and national hunger issues with information on upcoming events, food drives and opportunities to donate or volunteer. There will also be information on Food Share’s hunger programs for children, families, seniors and the homeless.

The Web site, which has been online for less than two weeks, is a way for volunteers and people in need to learn about local programs, said Sue Murphy, the organization’s director of development.

“At Christmas time, we do a holiday challenge that raises over 100,000 pounds of food, so we’re hoping to let people know more about that,” Murphy said. “You wouldn’t think so, but some folks have to choose between their prescriptions and their food.”

Through its 21,000-square-foot facility in Oxnard, Food Share serves more than 38,000 people each month across the county.
