Explosives Vehicle Ignites, Killing 100

A vehicle carrying explosives blew up and killed about 100 people in the suburbs of Urumqi, capital of western China’s Xinjiang Uighur Autonomous Region, the New China News Agency reported. Quoting sources at the Ministry of Public Security in Urumqi, the news agency said a number of people were injured. The explosives had been intended for disposal, the sources said. They detonated as the vehicle was in the western suburbs of Urumqi, damaging more than 20 other vehicles as well as nearby houses.
