Many Kids Home Alone, Survey Finds

Despite attempts to lower child-care costs and expand choices, many children are left alone after school until their parents get home from work, according to a survey of working parents. One in five children ages 6 to 12 is regularly left without adult supervision after school, the survey found. Older children are more likely to spend their after-school hours home alone rather than under adult supervision, researchers at the nonpartisan Urban Institute reported.
