Long Beach Opera to Fete Peri, ‘Euridice’

Long Beach Opera has announced casting for its 400th anniversary performances of Jacopo Peri’s “Euridice,” to be given in Harold M. Williams Auditorium at the Getty Center, Oct. 6-8.

Andrew Lawrence King is music director of the production; the orchestra will be Musica Angelica. In her debut assignment, Isabel Milenski will be stage director; another operatic debutante, Darcy Scanlin, will design the production. Costume design will be carried out by Audrey Fisher, with lighting by Geoff Korf.

In the cast are mezzo-soprano Christine Abraham as Euridice, with William Hite singing the role of Orfeo. Ellen Hargis will sing the part of Dafne, Nils Brown will be Arcetro and Curtis Streetman, Pluto.

Opening night, Oct. 6 at 8 p.m., will mark the exact 400th anniversary of Peri’s opera. Subsequent performances are scheduled Oct. 7 at 8 p.m. and Oct. 8 at 3 p.m.
