Advanced Sterilization Products in Irvine has launched its next generation of sterilizers, which it says can clean medical devices and surgical instruments in under an hour.

The Sterrad 100S System, a low-temperature, hydrogen peroxide gas plasma sterilizer, works in 55 minutes and leaves no toxic residues on surgical instruments and equipment, the company said. Other sterilization systems can take up to 14 hours, the company said.

The new sterilizer received U.S. Food & Drug Administration approval in June.

Advanced Sterilization is a unit of Johnson & Johnson.
