Private School Will Mark 25th Year

Share

The private Oak Grove School in the Ojai Valley will celebrate its 25th anniversary Friday with speeches, student presentations and food.

The festivities are scheduled from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the campus at 220 W. Lomita Ave.

During the celebration, families are invited to eat a vegetarian lunch, and students will plant a tree, bury a time capsule and present a history of the school.

The school, founded by author and philosopher Jiddu Krishnamurti, opened in 1975 with three students. Now, 187 students--in pre-kindergarten through 12th grade--are enrolled. Nearly 100 students have graduated from the school since it opened.

Oak Grove is the only Krishnamurti School in the United States, and is part of a network of international schools. Evelyne Blau and Mark Lee, trustees of the Krishnamurti Foundation of America, will speak Friday about the philosophy of the foundation, which encourages teachers and students to question together.
