4 New Day-Care Centers OKd by School Board
The Board of Education on Tuesday approved four new children’s centers to be located on the grounds of a middle school and three high schools.
The centers, each serving 120 children ages 2 to 5, will open at Northridge Middle School, Gardena High, and Cleveland and Verdugo Hills high schools.
The Gardena and Cleveland sites also will each serve 18 infants of teenage mothers, officials said. The centers at Cleveland High and Northridge Middle School are scheduled to open in mid-2001. The others will open later next year, officials said.
The school district now serves 11,585 children at 102 centers. Those children follow a curriculum that concentrates on building English vocabulary and other necessary skills.
The children’s centers are available to students and community members. The price is determined by a sliding scale. The services are free to the poorest parents, with most paying little, if anything.
