UCLA officials are expecting the crowd for Saturday’s game against Michigan to surpass that of the opener against Alabama, with projections reaching to 85,000.

The Bruins drew 76,640 for their 35-24 victory over the Crimson Tide on Sept. 2.

UCLA is again encouraging fans to leave themselves more time than usual to get to the stadium. The school is also again offering free busing from campus to students who pick up a ticket at the Central Ticket Office by the close of business Thursday, and a shuttle is also available to the public from the Ralph Parsons Engineering Building on Fair Oaks and Walnut in Pasadena. Parking there is $5 and the ride free.

Michigan Coach Lloyd Carr named John Navarre the starting quarterback for Saturday’s game, saying Drew Henson continues to make strides from a broken foot but that he may not play at all at the Rose Bowl. . . . The Bruins have climbed ahead of Alabama in the Associated Press poll, after originally being miffed about trailing last week in the wake of their win over the Crimson Tide. “It’s only right,” Coach Bob Toledo said. The Bruins are ranked 14th, the Tide 15th. Michigan is No. 3.
