The Planning Commission will meet Thursday to consider plans for a 1.4-acre mosque on a cul-de-sac at Truman Avenue north of Roosevelt Drive.
The Islamic Center of Southern California plans to build a 10,200-square-foot mosque that would include an assembly area, library, dining area, kitchen, computer room and offices. City officials are recommending a waiver of the city’s 10-foot landscaping setback requirement to allow for the angling of the building, which must face 26.5 degrees north-northwest in order for worshipers to face Mecca.
The meeting begins at 6:30 p.m. in the council chamber at the Irvine Civic Center, 1 Civic Center Plaza.
