* Pfizer Inc. won dismissal of a suit by a man who claimed the company’s Viagra anti-impotence drug caused his heart attack. Robert Selig, who was prescribed Viagra in April 1998, suffered a heart attack three months later after taking a third pill, a New York state Supreme Court judge said in making the decision. Selig had no history of cardiac problems, though he did have high cholesterol and was overweight. The judge granted summary judgment to Pfizer after reviewing the written opinion of a doctor whom Selig intended to offer as an expert witness.

* Brown & Williamson Tobacco Corp., a unit of British-American Tobacco, said it will trim its work force in a cost-cutting program brought about by its shrinking market share. The No. 3 U.S. cigarette maker will offer early retirement to 500 of its 6,000 employees.

* Scholastic Corp., publisher of the popular Harry Potter book series, said it will open boutiques in 1,215 Toys R Us Inc. stores worldwide to sell its products, including a new line of crafts, games and toys. Financial terms were not disclosed.
