A suspected gang member was killed in Inglewood during a shootout with police, authorities said Wednesday. Two uniformed officers in an unmarked car stopped in the 700 block of South Flower Street about 10:45 p.m. Tuesday, Police Lt. Ron Wood said.

The officers, who were working a gang suppression detail, tried to approach a group of young men, two of whom appeared to be involved in a drug deal, when somebody fired a shot at them, Wood said.

The officers returned fire and at least one more shot was fired by someone in the group, Wood said. The men in the group scattered and ran through the neighborhood, Wood said.

Police and dogs who searched the area found five suspects, one of whom had collapsed about 100 yards from the shooting and died, Wood said. It is unknown whether the suspect was killed by a shot fired by officers.

His name has not been released.

The other suspects were identified as Donald Parker, 25; Adrian Polee, 18; Rathel Brown, 21; and a 15-year-old.

No weapons had been recovered as of Wednesday morning, Wood said.
