A 15,000-square-foot lot downtown will be made available for public use, possibly as the site of a museum dedicated to Fullerton guitar maker Leo Fender, who died in 1980.
The City Council voted 4 to 1 Tuesday, with Chris Norby opposed, to transfer ownership of the lot at Wilshire and Pomona avenues from the Redevelopment Agency to the city for some type of public purpose.
A committee set up to study uses for the land has recommended that it be kept for the time being as open space for public events. The committee also suggested that the City Council pursue the concept of ultimately building a Fender museum there.
