The City Council has rejected a set of preliminary drawings for a sign program to mark the entrance to the city and identify the businesses in the Gateway shopping center.

The Gateway center is in the northern part of the city, near the San Diego Freeway.

The drawings called for three 26-foot signs, with the names of the major retailers in the center, facing the freeway before and after the Avery Parkway and Crown Valley Parkway exits and a number of corner monuments marking the entrances to the city.

Council members were dissatisfied with the designs presented at the Tuesday meeting by Graphic Solutions and asked city staff to form a task force with businesses and residents in the area to work with the consultant on a new design.
