President to Honor Blue Ribbon Schools
Officials from Valley View Middle School in Simi Valley and Redwood Middle School in Thousand Oaks were scheduled to be among those honored today at a White House ceremony.
President Clinton will attend the ceremony recognizing Blue Ribbon schools from across the country.
The award, handed out by the U.S. Department of Education, goes to public schools singled out for their efforts in improving education.
“It’s a real honor, a validation of what we know is happening in our school system,” said Lynn Johnson, director of secondary education for the Simi Valley Unified School District.
“Very few schools are Blue Ribbon schools, and I think it’s a tribute to the staff of Valley View and a reflection of the kind of excellence we see in Simi Valley schools,” said Simi Valley school board member Norm Walker.
