Three weeks after falling at her vacation home in Aspen, Colo., U.S. Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.) is scheduled to undergo surgery today to repair injuries to her left leg.

Feinstein’s office said Monday that the operation will be performed in San Francisco by Dr. Kevin Stone, an orthopedic surgeon specializing in sports medicine.

The 67-year-old senator, who is seeking reelection in November, fell on the stairs of her vacation residence during Labor Day weekend. She shattered her left tibia and severed a tendon that connects the quadriceps to the tibia, according to a Feinstein spokesman.

Feinstein has been casting votes in the Senate in Washington since the accident, but she has postponed or canceled several campaign events in California because of the injury.

Spokesmen for her office and her campaign said Monday that they will not know until after the surgery is completed how it will affect her schedule.
