Boy Thrown From Van Suffers Cuts

A 14-year-old Camarillo boy escaped with only minor injuries Friday morning after being ejected from a moving van during a collision in Thousand Oaks, CHP officials said.

The accident occurred at about 7:20 a.m. on the southbound Ventura Freeway near Rancho Road.

Ana Gomez, 26, of Newbury Park, lost control of her Honda coupe while attempting to change lanes and struck a Honda van carrying two adults and four teenagers, officials said.

The van overturned and 14-year-old Sunil Lad of Camarillo was ejected. California Highway Patrol Officer David Webb said the boy was not wearing a seat belt and sustained only minor cuts and bruises.

“We are very fortunate that [these were] the only injuries,” Webb said. “That is just luck.”

The van was driven by Carolyn Logerquist, 44, of Camarillo and was headed to Oak Christian School in Westlake, Webb said.

Rescue crews were called out after receiving reports that passengers were trapped inside the wreckage. Two lanes of the highway were closed for about an hour.

The other juveniles in the van complained of minor aches and pains, but authorities said there were no reports of any serious injuries.
