Congregation Hosts a Celebration of Women in the Ministry

Christ Our Redeemer AME Church will celebrate “Women in Ministry, Queens of the Pulpit: Revive! Restore! Renew Your Spirit!” at the 11 a.m. worship service each Sunday in October. Guest speakers will be the Rev. Candice Cole of the Faithful Central Bible Church; the Rev. Shemella Egson, pastor of Allen Chapel in Riverside; the Rev. Carolyn Tyler-Guidry, presiding elder of the Los Angeles-Pasadena 5th District; and the Rev. Jeanne Beharry of First AME Church in Los Angeles. First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in Garden Grove will observe World Communion Sunday at 9 a.m. Sunday. World Communion Sunday is a celebration by the Disciples of Christ and other denominations of the solidarity of Christians worldwide. Taking part will be the Church of God in Prophecy, a Spanish-speaking congregation that uses space on the church campus. The two congregations are working together on YouthQuest, a youth group designed to reach out to junior high and senior high youth in the Garden Grove area. Yom Kippur services at Temple Aviv Judea Messianic Synagogue will consist of an Erev Yom Kippur (Day of Atonement) service at 7 p.m. Oct. 8 and a Ne’ilah service with the Conservative prayer book and Yizkor at 5:30 p.m. Oct. 9. St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church will have its fourth annual Blessing of the Animals at 10 a.m. Oct. 7. The event is in honor of the Feast of St. Francis of Assisi, patron saint of the birds and beasts. All pets are welcome but should be on leashes or in cages or carriers. St. Clement’s By-the-Sea Episcopal Church will celebrate the annual Blessing of the Animals at 10 a.m. Oct. 7 on the church patio. All pets must be on a leash or in a cage or carrier. Joining in the ceremony will be representatives from Guide Dogs of America and their animals. After the ceremony, pastor Diane Jardine Bruce will go to the Friends of the Animals shelter to bless the animals in the hope that they will find loving homes.
