Megan Boulger earned a save in the first game and a victory in the second as Rosary swept No. 7 Loara, 3-1 and 2-1, in a softball doubleheader Monday at Cal State Fullerton.

The first game was scoreless heading into bottom of the sixth when the Royals (10-6) broke through with three runs.

Rosary starter Mallory Anderson (5-3) couldn’t close out the Saxons in the top of the seventh, allowing three hits and a run before giving way to Boulger with the bases loaded and no out.

Boulger thwarted the rally, retiring the next three batters to record her second save of the season.

“She’s been in tough situations like this before,” Rosary Coach Tom Tice said.

Boulger started the second game, and the Royals got her a quick 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first.

Boulger (4-3) gave up an unearned run in the third inning that allowed Loara to draw within 2-1, but combined with fellow sophomore Darcie McClelland to retire the last 13 batters. McClelland went the final two innings to earn her first save.

Katie Joosten (6-2) took both losses for Loara, which plays No. 2 Kennedy today in an Empire League opener.
