A bid to bring the 2004 U.S. Olympic gymnastics team trials to Anaheim is scheduled to be announced today by the Los Angeles Sports Council and the Arrowhead Pond. The event will determine U.S. men’s and women’s teams for the 2004 Athens Olympics.

USA Gymnastics, the national governing body for the sport, is accepting bids through April 15. The winning city is scheduled to be announced in June.

The bid committee includes Don Peters, who coached the U.S. women in 1984 and now operates the SCATS gymnastics academy in Huntington Beach.

“Orange County has the largest concentration of gymnastics clubs in the nation,” Peters said. “This is the perfect community to host an event of this magnitude.”
