Strong Winds Cause Power Outage to 2,700 in Ventura
Power lines felled by strong winds knocked out service to more than 2,700 customers Saturday, according to Southern California Edison.
The outage occurred about 6 p.m., and power was restored to all but 150 customers by 7 p.m., said Edison spokesman Glen Becerra. Power was expected to be restored to the remaining customers by 6 a.m. today.
Fronds from a palm tree near Poinsettia Place and Laurel Street fell on the lines, sparking a small fire and knocking the lines to the ground, Becerra said.
Most of the affected customers live between Sycamore Drive and Thompson Boulevard and Gilliard Lane and Ventura Avenue.
Crews were working to repair the lines late Saturday.
“When there is an outage, we are going to roll trucks no matter what because there could be health and safety issues that need to be addressed immediately,” Becerra said.
City fire and police officials reported no major problems.
