ESPN analyst Orel Hershiser visited former teammates Tuesday at Bank One Ballpark.

Although Hershiser enjoys his new broadcasting career, he also misses his previous job.

“I don’t miss throwing the ball, I miss the camaraderie and the team concept,” the 204-game winner said. “Just hanging out in the locker room and traveling with the guys, having a relationship with a team, that’s the part I miss.

“As far as throwing the ball, no, because I realize that part of my life is over. I’d be embarrassed, or even hurt, if I went out there and threw the ball. I don’t miss things that would embarrass me.”

Hershiser, scheduled to work 30 games this season, said TV work has enabled him to remain close to the game.

“That’s what’s great about doing the games,” he said. “I get back to renew the old relationships and see the guys, see different people and stay current with the game.”

Hershiser might rejoin the Dodgers in the future, but he said he is committed to ESPN.

“I’m the type of person who is going to work his butt off if you give me a job to do,” Hershiser said. “I just want to do the best job I can for ESPN.”

In his rehabilitation start against Portland for triple-A Las Vegas, Carlos Perez pitched five innings and gave up eight hits and six runs, five of them earned. He had three strikeouts and issued one walk.

* Update--Dreifort struggled April 4 in his first start--a 7-2 loss to the Diamondbacks at Dodger Stadium. The right-hander gave up 10 hits and six runs in 4 2/3 innings, but Manager Jim Tracy is not concerned. “I don’t feel that it was a bad outing,” he said. “[Dreifort] didn’t win, yet his delivery and his mechanics were good. I really think there were some positives.” Anderson took the loss April 12 in the Dodgers’ 7-5 victory. The left-hander gave up seven hits and six runs (five earned) in four innings.
