A Canoga Park woman who was killed when her car hit a tree in West Hills was identified by authorities Wednesday as Darla Leone Harris.

Harris, 38, was driving south on Valley Circle Boulevard on Tuesday afternoon when her station wagon swerved, hitting the center median and crashing into a tree.

She was taken to West Hills Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead, a hospital spokesman said.

Harris was not wearing a seat belt, said Sgt. Dave Ferry of the Los Angeles Police Department Valley Traffic Division.

“The seat belt . . . could have definitely saved her life,” Ferry said.

The Valley Traffic Division is investigating.
