Glen Moyer; One of World’s Oldest Twins Dies at 105

Glen Moyer, a retired schoolteacher whose brother and he were listed in the Guinness Book of Records as the oldest twins in the world, has died at age 105.

Moyer died Monday at the Brethrens Home Medical Center.

His twin brother, Dale, lives in Alvordton, Ohio, where the twins were born June 20, 1895. Their parents named them after valleys--a glen and a dale.

“My brother stayed with the land and became a farmer, and I became a teacher,” Glen Moyer said in 1995, when the two turned 100. “We went separate ways in life physically, but we have always been close spiritually.”

Moyer taught at several schools and was principal at one before retiring in 1964. On his 100th birthday, he received 185 greeting cards from former students and friends. His daughter, Lavon Mark, said at the time that he “even corrects my English to this day.”

Before taking up teaching, Moyer was a pastor of the Cincinnati Church of the Brethren, and he remained active with the church. He said he lived long because “I didn’t smoke or drink or do anything God would disapprove of.”

Moyer was a veteran of World War I, serving in France with the U.S. Army.

Besides his twin and daughter, he is survived by a sister, two grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
