Ex-Police Captain Shot Dead in Juarez
Men using an automatic weapon shot and killed a former Mexican police captain in the border metropolis of Ciudad Juarez.
The newspaper Diario de Juarez reported that Benjamin Alberto Lopez Zarate was hit with eight bullets Thursday morning while in his car near a hospital, where he was apparently visiting his son, who was ill. The attackers fled, and police had not reported arresting any suspects.
Lopez Zarate, 42, had been a member of the Federal Judicial Police and later was captain of the Juarez police force but resigned last July, reportedly after squabbling with superiors.
