The Curtain HasCome Down on This Act for Cayo

Down but Not Out: Cayo, adjacent to the Pasadena Playhouse (39 S. El Molino Ave.), has closed after a year and nine months. Jokes chef-owner Claud Beltran, “At least I get a little time off.” Keeping a restaurant busy at a theater proved more difficult than he anticipated--”It turned out to be a really tough location,” he tells us--but he says he and his staff are ready to make a go of it somewhere else soon.

Menu Action: Vincenti Ristorante chalks up its own family-style meal on Sunday nights. It’s three courses for $35 per person, and the menu changes weekly. Expect salads or pastas as starters; main courses might be rotisserie meats or grilled fish. Desserts can be as light as sorbet with chocolates or as sweet as a lemon tart. Vincenti, 11930 San Vicente Blvd., Brentwood; (310) 207-0127....Chaya Venice has added a lunch special for those who can’t decide what to order: It’s a combination plate with small portions of almost everything: salad, sushi, a fish selection, a meat selection and steamed vegetables; $11 (add a cup of soup for $2). It’s That Time Again: From 6 p.m. to midnight Saturday, Typhoon will hold another Asian Night Market. Booths filled with Pan-Asian foods will line the ramp in front of the restaurant next to Runway 21 of the Santa Monica Airport. Every half-hour from 7 to 10:30 p.m. there will be entertainment: Mongolian folk dancers, Chinese red handkerchief dancers, Japanese classical dancers, Chinese ribbon dancers, Thai bamboo dancers, Thai kick boxing, Chinese unicycle and bowl acrobats or a Thai drum parade. The dishes include Chinese roasted pigs, Burmese fish curry, Thai papaya salad, dim sum, sushi, hot and cold noodle dishes and sweets. Guests are encouraged to wear kimonos and sarongs. Balinese BBQ: Conny Andersson, chef at the Four Seasons Hotel Los Angeles, used to run the kitchen at the Four Seasons in Bali. Wanting to keep up his Balinese cooking chops, Andersson will prepare a Balinese barbecue on the terrace of the Gardens Restaurant from 6 to 10 p.m. Tuesday. The meal is part buffet, part table service. Grilled beef salad, lamb satay, mahi mahi grilled in a banana leaf, pork loin with red chile paste, coconut steamed rice, pickled vegetables and stewed banana in palm sugar with coconut ice cream are on the menu. Raise Your Glass and a Fork Here: Wally’s Wine & Spirits has lured winemaker David Ramey to Melisse for an evening of eating and drinking starting at 7 p.m. Tuesday. Ramey will pour his 1999 Ramey Chardonnays and a hitherto untasted 2000 Rudd Oakville Estate wine. Chef Josiah Citrin will make hors d’oeuvres, pan-roasted scallops, citrus-spiced black bass with heirloom tomatoes and a Colorado lamb loin with a braised lamb shank. Or Here: Topline Merchants of Glendale get together with Derek’s in Pasadena to create a Davis Bynum wine dinner Tuesday. Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Merlot and Zinfandel will accompany seared scallops with Belgian endive, pork tenderloin with fingerling potatoes, beef Wellington and chocolate souffle with Grand Marnier cream.
