Save Marina del Rey for Boats and Boating

Share

Re “County Authorizes Talks on Marina del Rey Hotel Plan,” Aug. 1: This marina was built with federal funds in support of boats and boating, not for the development of hotels and housing. Whatever happened to the projects to upgrade the number of boat slips and boating facilities? The Board of Supervisors should get out of the business of maximizing county income by catering to sheiks and potentates who only seek to fatten their own purses.

Projects thus far approved by the board have actually reduced the number of available boat slips and facilities. Larger and larger slips, which eliminate the smaller slips for middle-class families, have been the pattern of this shortsighted board. Traffic for the business and entertainment centers at the marina has brought traffic to a standstill on the weekends. Burton Chase and Kenneth Hahn are probably spinning in their graves, viewing what this board is doing to their cherished concepts.
