Re “House OKs Patients’ Rights Bill,” Aug. 3: The president and the Republicans who want to limit the HMOs’ liability for malpractice lawsuits always cite the large amounts of money going to trial lawyers as the reason. If they were sincere in that concern, why didn’t they limit the amount trial lawyers could make on a case instead of the amount awarded the victim? The HMOs bought and paid for this administration and Congress. If there is any doubt about that, follow the money.
