Ted Lyford of Redlands and Preston Davis of Manhattan Beach earned spots in the U.S. Senior Open by placing first and second in a qualifier at Spring Valley Lake Country Club in Victorville. Lyford shot four-under 68 and Davis shot 71.

Ron Ramsey of San Diego shot two-under 70 to lead a group of four qualifiers at Mission Viejo Country Club. Thomas Mahoney of Long Beach (72), Mike Riley of San Diego (73) and Dave Hellman of Mission Viejo (74) also qualified.

The U.S. Senior Open is Sept. 8-13 at Norwood Hills Country Club in St. Louis.
