Sushi After Sunset: Friday night, we like to take a long walk with the kids and dogs. My daughter is 7 and my son is 11 and we live up in the Laurel Canyon hills, so we walk to Fryman Canyon off of Mulholland and watch the sunset. We’d probably go to a local sushi place, Katsu Ya, on Ventura Boulevard. Or to Mya Sushi on Laurel Canyon. Then we’d go to a movie at Century City, which was the 20th Century lot, where I spent much of my childhood.

Everyone’s Choice: On Saturday, we like brunch at the Farmers Market on Fairfax, so everyone can get what they want. I’d probably have an ahi sandwich from Kokomo’s; my wife, Eileen, would have a crepe; Seth would get a chicken taco; and Liliana would get a piece of pizza.

Beach Trip: We’ll get in the car and drive to Montecito because it’s our favorite place, and spend a few hours on the Miramar beach and get a snack at Peabody’s or an early dinner at Palazzio. On the way home, we’ll stop and visit my mother. She’s 89 and lives in Camarillo. And then we’ll go to Sal’s, our favorite Mexican restaurant in Oxnard. Sal’s is really good. It’s just family Mexican food, not American Mexican food.

Pier Pressure: That night we’ll get a baby-sitter and I’ll head out to play a set with my band, the Jenerators, at Rusty’s Surf Ranch on the Santa Monica Pier. I like that place because you’ve got the beach air and Ferris wheel and everything lit up at night. It reminds me of the old Ocean Park days.

Toast and Tea: Sunday, after sleeping really late, we have a nice cup of English breakfast tea and rye toast. The bread has to come from the Diamond Bakery on Fairfax. My wife comes from a long line of bakers, so she’s very particular about things like that. Again, we’d walk with the dogs and kids, take a swim, maybe meet friends to play tennis. And then go for an early dinner at Sushi Gen in Honda Plaza in Little Tokyo. I could live on that. But I’d have to be a regular on “Friends.” It gets pricey.
