* Equity Residential Properties Trust, the largest U.S. apartment owner, said second-quarter earnings rose 8% to $195 million, or $1.31 per share, as rising national apartment vacancies cut into the company’s growth rate. Revenue rose 12% to $544.4 million.

* Apparel retailer Lands’ End Inc. posted better-than-expected profit as the company sold more clothing through catalogs and on the Internet and held down costs.

Net income was $3.04 million, or 10 cents a share, contrasted with a loss of $1.88 million, or 6 cents, a year earlier. Sales rose 4% to $285.8 million.

* Loral Space & Communications Ltd., the second-biggest U.S. satellite-communications company, said its loss narrowed to $54.7 million, or 29 cents a share, from $93.9 million, or 37 cents, a year earlier. Sales fell 15% to $275 million.

* Polo Ralph Lauren Corp.’s fiscal first-quarter profit rose 29% to $31.1 million, or 32 cents a share, as the designer and maker of clothing reduced costs and sold more luxury goods. Sales rose 6.3% to $517.8 million.
