* Exide Technologies, the largest automotive-battery maker, will cut 1,300 more jobs, or 6.5% of its work force, and said its second-quarter and fiscal-year earnings will be lower than expected as orders from telecommunications customers decline.

* WebMD Corp. posted a second-quarter operating loss of $23.8 million, or 7 cents a share, compared with a loss of $55.5 million, or 28 cents, a year ago, meeting Wall Street’s expectations. Revenue jumped 77% to $178.7 million.

* United Services Automobile Assn., a Texas-based insurance and financial services company, plans to cut 1,370 jobs, or almost 6% of its work force, to cut costs amid a slowdown in sales. About 85% of the job cuts will occur at USAA’s San Antonio headquarters.

* Iomega Corp., the maker of Zip and Jaz data-storage devices for computers, increased its planned job cuts to 1,250, or 38% of its work force, as the company seeks to lower costs. The company said last month that it would cut 800 to 1,100 jobs.
