Old Septic Tank Removed From Beach

The county has removed an old septic tank from Channel Islands Harbor Beach that may have contributed to the bacteria that have plagued the area.

Some fluid taken from the tank at so-called Kiddie Beach will be tested by the city of Oxnard, said Richard Hauge, with the county’s environmental health division.

Wind recently exposed a corner of the tank, which was buried in the sand. The tank is believed to have last been used in the ‘60s or ‘70s.

“In my fantasies, we would take this out and everything would be taken care of,” said Harbor Director Lyn Krieger. “It’s unlikely it’s a major source [of pollution].”
