Habitat Chapter’s Latest Home Is 20th in 10 Years
Habitat for Humanity and the local Kiwanis Club will start construction today on a house in Long Beach for a needy family.
The first wall of the home will go up at 2 p.m. at 625 Hill St., marking the 20th house built in 10 years by the South Bay-Long Beach chapter of Habitat.
The Kiwanis Club of Long Beach raised the money for building materials and will pitch in with Habitat volunteers to build the house.
The goal is to complete the house by year’s end, along with 29 others underway in the area the affiliate serves: Greater Long Beach, Harbor Area and the South Bay. The group’s goal is to finish 90 additional homes by 2005, said spokeswoman Jessica Johnson.
