From Times Staff Reports

A Sylmar man pleaded not guilty Monday to charges that he killed his 19-year-old daughter and 8-year-old grandson last month, the district attorney’s office said.

Claude Wright, 60, is accused of fatally shooting his daughter, Elizabeth, a college student who was home on summer break, and grandson, Kyle, at the family’s home July 12. He then shot himself but survived a bullet wound in the head.

Wright is being held without bail. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Sept. 16, said Jane Robison, a spokeswoman for the district attorney’s office.

The retired Air Force veteran was discovered on the floor of his home, along with the two bodies, by his wife, Helen Wright. He had called her at work before the shootings and told her to come home.

Wright’s attorney did not return calls seeking comment Monday.
