Suit Accuses LAPD of Attacking Protesters
Los Angeles police ruthlessly attacked scores of lawful protesters at last year’s Democratic National Convention, according to a federal lawsuit, the second such suit in as many weeks.
Monday’s suit centers on the LAPD’s attempt to roust hundreds of demonstrators from an officially designated protest area outside Staples Center Aug. 14 of last year.
After coming under rock-throwing attack from a few protesters, police ordered everyone in the area to leave.
The suit accuses the police of attacking the vast majority of law-abiding demonstrators before they could disperse.
The plaintiffs told of being injured by police batons and rubber bullets. Others said they were trampled by officers on horseback. They seek unspecified money damages and class-action status.
An LAPD spokesman said the department does not comment on any pending litigation.
