5 Receive Nominations for Valley’s Fernando Award

The five nominated for the 2001 Fernando Award were announced at a luncheon in Woodland Hills on Friday.

Stanley Bryant, Rose Goldwater, William F. Powers Jr., Ruth Richter and Bob Scott were recognized for their community service and civic achievement.

Bryant, owner of Northridge Insurance Agency, is a board member of the North Valley Family YMCA and has helped expand facilities and programs for adults with disabilities.

Goldwater was commended for her work with Pierce College and a number of organizations, including the West Valley Boys & Girls Club and the Haven Hills Home for Battered Wives and Children.

Powers, a Chatsworth attorney and real estate broker, serves on the boards of the Valley Cultural Center, the Chatsworth Depot Foundation and the Child Development Institute.

Scott, vice chairman of the Economic Alliance of the San Fernando Valley, has volunteered with the United Chambers of Commerce of the Valley, the Los Angeles City Planning Commission and Valley Advocates for Local Unified Education, among other groups.

The winner will be announced at a banquet Nov. 2.
