LULAC Won’t Accept Group Until Dues Paid

From Times Staff Reports

The local chapter of a national Latino civil rights group cannot operate under the organization’s umbrella until it pays its dues, authorities said Friday.

The Anaheim-based United Neighborhoods council, one of more than 600 across the United States, has only a few dues-paying members but a larger base of volunteers. To be in good standing with the League of United Latin American Citizens, at least 10 members must pay $6 annually to the state and $12 or $16 to the national organization, officials said.

Larry Luera, director for LULAC’s Orange County district, said the group is behind one year in its dues but is catching up.
