From Times Wire Reports

The late Princess Diana’s butler will prove that he did not betray her trust and steal her possessions, his lawyer said, accusing police of subjecting Paul Burrell to a “trophy trial.”

Burrell is accused of stealing 342 items belonging to the princess and other members of the British royal family. He pleaded not guilty during a court appearance.

Burrell, 43, was charged Thursday with taking the items from Diana, Prince Charles and Prince William on or before June 30, 1998, at Kensington Palace. Conviction on the charges carries a maximum sentence of seven years in prison.
