Can Prosecution Really Solve Homelessness?

Share

Re “”Outdoor-Sleeping Case Tossed,”” Aug. 10:

Buena Park’s city prosecutor wants to toughen the law against the homeless encampments after losing the lawsuit against a grandma.

The Orange County Grand Jury just recommended cooperation between all cities and the county to solve the homeless crisis. There are state laws on the books to establish housing standards to provide for the homeless and the poor.

Government Code 15290(f) states: “ “To feed the hungry, clothe the naked, and house the homeless consistent with this part is a priority of the state.””

It seems quite anomalous to have a Board of Supervisors and a City Council in Tustin that have hundreds of housing units empty which certainly could provide a temporary if not a permanent solution to this crisis.

I would welcome the [homeless and poor] to the “Great Park.” Maybe airplanes are more important than people. And maybe no politician wants to solve this problem.

So when it looked like cCity Pprrosecutor Greg Palmer might lose his case against Diane Grue, he was “numb.” Perhaps that----not homeless encampments----is the problem.
