Car Chases on TV Sell Entertainment as News

Share

Re “Chase TV: That’s Entertainment!” Aug. 15: So here we are, at the end of another pursuit, with some troubled soul ruining the drive for thousands of motorists. A lot of children would not get picked up on time! I say to my pilot, “Oh, my God, you won’t believe what CBS TV just did. The president is speaking to the world about perhaps one of the most important issues of the future for mankind and they went to a split screen with the pursuit!”

Pilot Evan Jensen, wise way beyond his years, says, “Cool, which box did Bush get?”

I just don’t get it. Police pursuits have been going on since the beginning of time. I feel that, as an airborne reporter for a radio station, at least I can help the driving public stay out of harm’s way. My audience is either driving or about to drive. We’ll try to help. But when they allow TVs in the front seats of vehicles, I’m heading for the mountaintop! Maybe TV should call it “Breaking Entertainment.” Lord knows, once that starts, you won’t see any news!

Having our freeways shut down at rush hour is a problem. Auto dismantlers (wrecking yards) have large electromagnets. I suggest a helicopter using this type of magnet pluck these fools off our streets. Since we are a democratic nation, the population, through interactive TV, could vote on the altitude at which the electromagnetic power should be shut off.
