The Fire Department will show off a new program designed to improve the physical fitness of its firefighters at an open house next week.
The $450,000 program, which includes medical evaluations, is expected to help reduce workers’ compensation payments and improve the health and welfare of firefighters.
“The injury rates have come down tremendously,” said Marie Taylor-Briggs, the city’s safety specialist.
The open house will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Aug. 29 at Fire Station 3, 150 Hill St.
