Liberty Beats Miami to Reach Eastern Finals

NEW YORK — Vickie Johnson scored 22 points and the New York Liberty advanced to the WNBA Eastern Conference finals for the third consecutive year with a 72-61 victory over the Miami Sol Tuesday before 15,750 at Madison Square Garden.
Crystal Robinson scored 16 points for the Liberty, which won the best-of-three series, 2-1, and will face the Charlotte Sting in the conference finals on Friday.
Elena Baranova and Sandy Brondello had 18 points each for Miami, an expansion team last season.
Tamika Whitmore had eight points and six rebounds for the Liberty, which improved to 14-4 at home.
Miami’s Sheri Sam was held to six points.
